some bee blocks…

nubees october 053

made a practice block for myself with some Denyse Schmidt fabrics from the Chicopee line and an Emily Herrick starfish fabric.  the pattern is from quilter’s cache website, titled caned seat by Marcia Hohn.  cool pattern and not too difficult – it’s paper-pieced, which isn’t one of my favorite things to do, but always makes for nice finished blocks.  I made one for Jodie, who is making a Pittsburgh Steelers quilt – love the color combo in this one.

I can’t remember what the black/grey fabric was called.  that’s almost the end of my stash of it.  I found it a bit ago at Joann’s, of all places.  the yellow is a Kona, but I didn’t mark it in any way to know what the color is.  Quiltology was having a fat quarter sale of Kona one day and I just made a mad grab for a bunch of colors.  I’m trying to add in more solids to my quilting.  I love love love prints, but I can admit that some of my quilts might be a tad busy because of it.  but then you run into fabrics like the bee print in this one and it’s hard to say no…  :-) (it’s a Michael Miller fabric – Hive, maybe?)

I still have three more blocks to complete for the October/November assignment in the NuBees.  it’s been slow sewing over here.  feels more like the time of year to get under a quilt rather than make one.  maybe I’ll pull out some of last year’s unfinished Christmas mug rugs and get going on those – inspiration for the almost-here holidays!  happy sewing :-)
